Turkish police, forensics and emergency services work on the scene of an explosion on the pedestrian Istiklal avenue in Istanbul on March 19, 2016.
Four people were killed and 20 wounded in a suicide bombing on a central shopping district in Turkey’s largest city of Istanbul on Saturday, the local governor said.
Of the 20 wounded, three people were in serious condition, the governor said in a statement. There were three Israeli citizens among the wounded, Turkey’s Dogan news agency reported.
The explosion was in Istiklal Street, a wide boulevard closed to traffic that is lined with international stores and shopping centres.
A Reuters witness in the area saw police helicopters circling overhead and television footage showed people running from the area. A car bomb tore through the capital Ankara earlier this month, killing 37 people.
