Protests against rape and murder of Tonu continue

Different women rights bodies, student organisations and social groups in separates programmes in the city on Friday protested against the rape and murder of the college student Shohagi Jahan Tonu in Comilla cantonment area.
Samajtantrik Mahila Forum, Nari Sanghati, Bangladesh Chhatra Union and Nagarik Parishad formed separate human chains in front of the National Press Club, and demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the rapists and murderers of Tonu.
Chaired by Raushan Ara Russo, Socialist Party of Bangladesh central leader Bazlur Rashid Firoz, singer Mahmuduzzaman Babu, Forum leaders Samsunnahar Joyestna, Shampa Basu and others spoke at the rally.
Nari Sanghati, another body of women rights also formed a human chain at 4:00pm where its president Shamoly Sheel demanded immediate arrest of the killers of Tonu and their exemplary punishments.
Ganasanghati Andolan central leaders Firoz Ahmed, Abul Hassan Rubel, Taslima Akhter, leaders of the organisation Aparajita Dev, Jannatul Moriam and others spoke at the rally.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Chhatra Union also formed another human chain at the same venue demanding arrest and punishments of the Tonu’s killers.
Lucky Akhter, president of the organisation said that the government had failed to ensure securities of citizens, specially the women and children.
She called on the people to be vocal against the brutal killing of Tonu.
Nagarik Parishad, also formed a human chain in front of the Press Club, protesting against Tonu killing and theft of reserve money of Bangladesh Bank.
Leaders of the organisation Harun Ur Rashid, Mohammad Shamsuddin and others spoke on the occasion.
