The EC also sent letters to leaders of two factions of the left-wing party led by Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu asking them to be present at the EC’s hearing.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Election Commission on Monday afternoon, said Joint Secretary of EC Secretariat Jesmin Tuli.
“A decision was taken to arrange hearing over complexity regarding leadership of JSD. It also decided to ask leaders of both factions to be present at the hearing,” she said.
The Commission will record the statement of a faction led by Hasanul Haq Inu and Shirin Akter at 11am on the day, while another faction’s leaders Moinuddin Khan Badal and Nazmul Haque Prodhan at 3am, said EC officials.
Following the hearing, the Commission will take the final decision over the main leadership of JSD and who will have authority to certify its chairman candidates in the ongoing Union Parishad elections.
After disposing of the crisis, the Commission will finalise who will be allocated ‘Torch’ symbol to run as JSD’s chairman candidates in the third phase Union Parishad election.
On March 12 last, JSD suffered a split at its national council when a faction rebelled against Inu's bid to install Shirin Akhter as the party’s general secretary.
The rebel faction named Sharif Nurul Ambia and Nazmul Haque Prodhan MP as its president and general secretary respectively. It also named Moinuddin Khan Badal as its executive president.
Both the groups now claim themselves as the ‘main’ party and have fielded chairman contenders for the UP polls seeking JSD’s 'torch' as its symbol.
