10 hurt in pre-election violence in Barisal

At least ten people were injured in a clash between the followers of two chairman candidates during electioneering ahead of Sarikal union parishad (UP) election at Kurirchar in Gauranadi upazila on Saturday afternoon, reports UNB.

Officer-in-charge of Gauranadi Police Station M Alauddin Milon said two chairman aspirants - BNP-backed SM Manjur Hossain and AL-nominated Faruk Mollah -- were carrying out their election campaign along with their supporters in the afternoon.

The clash ensued when the two groups came face to face at Kurirchar village, leaving at least 10 people injured on the spot.

The attackers also vandalised four houses and torched seven motorcycles during the melee.

On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
