Bhutan Queen Mother visits Bangabandhu Museum

Queen Mother of Bhutan Tshering Pem Wangchuck, now in city on a five-day visit, on Monday visited Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in the city.

The Queen Mother paid tributes to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman placing wreaths on the portrait of Bangabandhu at the Museum.

After visiting the Museum in Dhanmondi, the Queen Mother also signed the visitors’ book there, said an official.

Earlier, Mizanur Rahman, Secretary (bilateral and consular), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, received her at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on her arrival in the morning. Director General (South Asia Wing) Tareq Md Ariful Islam was also present.

The Queen Mother is also the President of the Youth Development Fund (YDF), a voluntary organisation that manages and provides resources to various youth development projects in Bhutan.

She is accompanied by Princess Chimi Yangzom Wangchuck, Vice President of YDF, according to the Foreign Ministry.

The delegation also includes a five-member team from the YDF.

During her stay here, the Queen Mother will meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

She will also visit one of BRAC’s regional offices to see BRAC programmes.

The Queen Mother’s visit will also include visits to the Beximco Industrial Park to see textiles, garments and ceramic enterprises; the National Museum and other places of interest.

She will leave for Bhutan on March 18.
